Couples Counselling
What is couples counselling?
Couples counselling looks to improve communication, understanding and facilitate change, helping to resolve issues within a relationship. Couples Counselling can be for any type of couple for example; married or partners; parent and adult child.
How can counselling for couples help?
Sometimes we can enter stalemate over the smallest things which can escalate into something so big that we don’t feel understood and cannot understand our partner’s view. We often stop speaking and building resentment that bubbles away. At times things can also feel stale, like there is nowhere to go, feeling trapped.
I provide a safe confidential space. I will help you to explore any issues you have, help you understand each other and communicate better together. Talking with me, I hope that you will hear each other differently and understand each other’s perspective.
I can help you understand how external factors such as family values, religion, lifestyle and culture affect your relationship. We can reflect on the past and how it operates in the present and find ways to help you communicate in a more constructive way. You can learn why arguments escalate and determine how best to negotiate and resolve conflict where possible.
You and your partner may find a way of overcoming your problems, or you may decide it is time to part ways. Either way, hopefully counselling will offer you the space to grow and decide what you would like the future to hold for both of you.
What wont I do?
I will not give advice or offer my own opinion. By helping you to communicate more effectively I hope that together you will be able to communicate more effectively and reach your conclusions and way forward.
